Case Study on Package Insert Brief
When the founders of a successful high-end shaving cream and body care product manufacturer decided to cross sell their new products to existing customers through the use of a custom ‘package insert’ piece in order to reduce their cost of sales and grow the lifetime value of their customer base, they quickly became discouraged by the high cost of producing the piece in the US. The main issue became the manual effort required to place the 8 individual product promotion cards into the custom die cut envelope before sealing the envelope shut with a branded sticker and packaging in a plastic bag for protection. The high cost of US labor for hand assembly along with the relatively low number of units, 25,000 for the first order, led to the price being approximately three times higher in the US than in China. When Affordable Quality Sourcing became involved, the customer had all but given up on the effort but the project was quickly put back on track once we engaged with a highly effectively factory that had done these sorts of pieces in the past. From the time we had the artwork it took 15 days to see the sample and confirm that the factory had the proper instructions and that the piece was ready for production. The initial order was placed and the shipment arrived within 45 days. The customer was delighted by the quality of the finished piece and the savings of over 50% over quotes they were receiving from US based producers.
